Face Lifts for Wrinkle Reduction
Face lifts for wrinkle reduction
During my search for the best wrinkle treatment option I have, I found out that though microdermabrasion, chemical peels and anti-wrinkle creams are effective in treating wrinkles, and its effects are all temporary.
If you don't have the patience to use anti-wrinkle creams on a regular basis, or to have chemical peel or microdermabrasion every few months, then you'd better consider a more permanent form of wrinkle treatment, which is available in plastic surgery.
Today, the facelift the most common form of plastic surgery used to reduce wrinkles. Face lifts are also called rhytidectomies, and is done to make you look younger and more attractive. It helps eliminate wrinkles, sagging skin, jowls, double chins and age related skin creases.
The procedure
The surgery is done by first making incisions at strategic points, and then stretching skin taut. The doctor than clips off the excess skin, and uses sutures or metal clips to secure the stretched skin in place.
Facelifts that are done properly show no complications and will make you look as many as ten years younger. The results of this youth last for several years, wherein you may have to undergo an additional round of surgery.
Face lifts or a rhytidectomy is usually carried out for cosmetic reasons to improve their self confidence, and not necessarily for medical reasons. This is why most medical insurance plans don't cover a face lift's expenses. You will have to pay for the face lift out of your own pocket.
Are you a good candidate?
Basically both men and women undergo rhytidectomies. However there are some people who don't make good candidates for the procedure. People who are prone to keloids (thick and raised scars) are not good face-lift candidates.
To find out if you are a good candidate for a face lift, you will have to discuss the surgery process, and answer whatever questions your doctor poses you. You will be asked your skin type, age and your overall health to evaluate if you are a good candidate for a face lift.
After care
A rhytidectomy is completed in a few hours' time where you will be given local anesthetic and a mild sedative to numb the region and make you relax. However if required, doctors ma also give general anesthesia to you to make you unconscious during the procedure. You and your doctor will decide on the best anesthetic for your surgery.
The mild pain you may experience after a surgery can be controlled using pain killers. There may be some swelling, bruising and redness after plastic surgery, which is controlled using cold compresses. The stitches or staples your doctor uses will be removed in 10 days' time. You will be able to resume your everyday activities after 2-3 weeks.
