Honey and its use in skin whitening

The constant exposure of your skin, especially the facial skin to the sun and outdoor elements can lead to its abnormal pigmentation and uneven darkening. It’s possible to even and lighten the skin using various homemade skin lightening techniques using honey.

Honey can handle various types of skin discoloration problems as honey is an emollient in skin discoloration and lightening. It thus effectively softens and soothes the skin while its lightening ingredient bleaches the skin.

The long term exposure to the sun leads to skin discoloration and possible sun spots on the face. Women also suffer from hormonal imbalances due to pregnancy which discolors the skin. The best way to address all these cases of skin discolorations using homemade recipes involving honey.

1. Lemon juice with honey

This is not only a favorite drink, but a common ‘cream’ skin mask. The confluence of the soothing honey qualities and the bleaching aspects of the lemon juice creates a recipe which with time, gently and slowly lightens your skin. In fact, states that honey acts like an emollient which softens the skin while the lemon juice lightens the skin.

It’s easy making the mask; you just have to mix a tablespoon of honey with half tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply over your face, and let it sit for 15 minutes. Repeat this every day for three to four weeks for best results.

2. Clay and honey mask

You need to use dermatological clay here, preferably Multani Mitti or Fuller’s Earth. Then mash a banana in a bowl and add about a spoon of honey and some aloe Vera gel to it. Next add the clay to create a paste consistency.

Add milk if you find the paste to be too thick, and then apply the paste on your thoroughly washed face. Let it dry for about half an hour, and then remove with cold water. This should be done twice a week and you will find some marked differences and results within two weeks of usage.

3. Honey with almond cream

The Lifestyle Lounge at states that almonds possess lightening characteristics and thus form a great pair with honey as the emollient. Prepare the cream mixing half a tablespoon of almond powder with a tsp. of honey.
Mix the two and then add a teaspoon of lemon juice and apply the paste to your face for about 15 minutes and remove. This has to be repeated every day for about 3-4 weeks for best skin whitening results.
